Fair Share Votes

Big win for the middle class

This election was a win for people who believe action must be taken to make our economy fair.

The American people chose President Obama; endorsed his plan to invest in jobs and the middle class and make the wealthiest Americans pay their fair share; and vetoed the Romney-Ryan plan to double down on a winner-take-all economy.

Fair Share did its part by knocking on doors in six states to help turn out voters for President Obama and other candidates who will stand up for working families. You can see our list of endorsements, here.

Working in partnership with Fair Share Action, our organizers talked face-to-face with voters across Arizona, Colorado, Florida, New Hampshire, North Dakota and Pennsylvania.

At every door, we talked about responsible leadership and educated voters about important issues like protecting Medicare and Social Security, ending the extra Bush tax cuts for the wealthy, and getting Big Money out of politics.

Many observers point to a top-notch ground game as a deciding factor in closely contested swing states. We know that through person-to-person advocacy we helped to generate a late surge of support for President Obama and other candidates who support a fair economy.

We'll continue our work, door-to-door and vote by vote, to build a democracy and an economy that work for all of us.

Get big money out of politics: Victory on Amendment 65!

Fair Share is working to get big money out of politics. We took another step forward when Colorado voters overwhelmingly approved Amendment 65 by a vote of 74% to 26% on Election night. Fair Share and our coalition partners collected more than 180,000 signatures to successfully place Amendment 65 on the ballot in Colorado, and then helped get out the votes to ensure it passed on Election Day.

In their 2010 Citizens United decision, the Supreme Court decided that corporations have the rights of people and money equals free speech -- rigging the system against the average voter who can’t compete with unlimited campaign spending by corporate super PACs. Amendment 65 tells Colorado’s congressional delegation to support a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United.
