Kids, Not Cuts!
Everyone deserves a fair shot in life, and that starts with a quality education.
Unfortunately, some in Congress are moving to cut billions from education.
Reckless cuts made deep cuts in early 2013 slashed programs for 1.2 million kids and take 30,000 teachers out of classrooms. Some 57,000 children lost their place in Head Start. To make matters worse, House Budget Chair Paul Ryan proposed to slash education by another $6.9 billion over the coming year.
During the budget sequester of 2013, Fair Share launched the Kids, Not Cuts! campaign to end the sequester and harmful budget cuts to education. Fair Share organizers knocked on 113,400 doors, spoke with 54,432 individuals, and gathered more than 22,000 petition signatures opposing federal education cuts. Congress ultimately approved a multi-year budget compromise that ended most of the sequester cuts and restored funding to Head Start.
Together we can stand up to education cuts as they resurface.
