Our Work In The Elections

Our Work In The Elections

Fair Share  talked face-to-face with hundreds of thousands of voters in critical battleground states to help elect President Obama in 2008 and prevent a wholesale Wall Street takeover of Congress in 2010.

Helping Make History In 2008

Barack Obama made history in 2008, winning a resounding mandate for change.

True to his community organizer roots, he didn't do it alone. To his credit, from day one he invited all of us to share ownership of his campaign and the movement for change.

We're proud of the role we played in Election 2008 through our own independent efforts. Here's just a little of what we did:

  • We sponsored two pro-Obama ads (including one set to Paul Simon's "American Tune.")

  • We endorsed a strong slate of "down-ballot" candidates in Colorado.

  • And in the last four days, we did our part to help get out the vote for Barack Obama in 10 states through our own 96-hour Obamathon.

Growing Grassroots Democracy

In addition to the presidential election, in 2008 we also worked to build democracy and grow the grassroots movement around issues that matter to people.

  • We ran non-partisan voter registration drives in 15 states.

  • We helped push past the smears and delivered a fact-driven, side-by-side comparison of the candidates to undecided voters in 10 states.

  • When Michigan Republicans moved to challenge voters whose homes were being foreclosed, we took action. When the rhetoric at McCain-Palin rallies provoked a hateful response, we spoke out.

Pushing For The Leadership We Need In 2010

It was a tough year at the polls for our candidates and issues in 2010, but the Fair Share was out in the field talking face-to-face with tens of thousands of voters.

  • Pennsylvania: We ran a three-office paid voter contact program and had 30-40 canvassers going out every day talking directly to voters who needed an extra push to get to the polls.

  • Colorado: Fair Share endorsed progressive candidates up and down the ticket—from U.S. Senator Michael Bennet to progressive leaders in the State House—and worked with Environment Colorado to get our message out to thousands of voters.

  • Across the Country: We also endorsed candidates and worked with allies in NH, NV, OH, and VA.
